Early Friday night, the Spartans looked like the hitting machine that has put 49 runs on the board in the past four games. After back to back bombs from Montan Dawson and Cole Penn in the first the Spartans put up three more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. But when Davie Co came up in the bottom of two, the bottom fell out and in a quick blink, MT was down 7-5. Davie hit the ball hard off Jon Gordon and could not recover, finally losing 9-5. Thomas St. Clair came in for Gordon and gave up a couple more runs before Montana Dawson closed it out. The Spartans could only put five hits on the board to go with their five runs. Davie matched their hits and runs, too, with nine. The loss dropped MT to 2-4 in CPC play while Davie is tied with North Davidson for first place. The Spartans continue conference play Tuesday with a big game at ND followed by a game against Reynolds Friday at Carl R. Sapp Field.
