Spartans Lose Heartbreaker in Extras to Davie County 11-9
The Spartans drop to 0-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference after losing a tearjerker to conference foes Davie County. The game started off with hot bats on both sides with Davie accumulating 2 in their first at bats but not without the Spartans retaliating with 5 of their own in the bottom half off of key Tabor hits from Jon Gordon and a 2 RBI single by Patrick Ronan. Things quieted down for a while until the third inning when Davie tacked on two more to make it a one run Spartan lead off of a Tabor error in the outfield. Tabor lengthened their lead once again in the bottom half of the third off of a home run from Senior Jamie Nunn and yet another Patrick Ronan RBI single. The game stayed 8-4 until the top of the 6th when Davie scrapped together a run and then held the Spartans to nothing in the bottom of the inning. The score was 8-5 heading into the top of the 7th with the Spartans out in front. Tabor had the War Eagles down to their last out and last strike and two men on , Davie got an extra chance after a controversial close called ball. The count was full and Davie launched a deep home to tie the game, which ultimately lead to extras as Tabor failed to generate any runs in the bottom of the 7th. Davie's momentum continued as they tacked on three more in the top of the 8th. Tabor managed to cut the lead to 11-9 after Bradley Morton jacked a deep home to left. The Spartans are still searching for their first win of the season as they play at home tomorrow against conference match-up North Davidson for the official home opening ceremonies to commemorate the new Carl R. Sapp field.
