Mount Tabor Spartans last inning rally comes up short to Wesleyan 16-6
The Spartans met the 3A Private School defending State Champion Wesleyan Trojans at BB&T Ballpark for what turned out to be a slugfest, ultimately leading to a 16-6 Spartans loss. The Trojans of Wesleyan started off strong in the first inning getting 3 runs off of two hits and a Spartan error on a close collision play at home that sidelined catcher Tanner Vogler later in the game. The Spartans fought back hard in the bottom of the inning with three runs of their own thanks to lead off double by "Cheese" Parmesano, followed by Montana Dawson reaching first on a past ball strike out. First basemen Cole Penn, who homered in his last game, hit a deep fly ball off of the right field wall scoring Parmesano for a stand up double. Tanner Vogler and Matt McConnell both had RBI singles that same inning to tie the game at 3. The wheels started falling of for Tabor as Wesleyan started off the second inning with a triple and went on to accumulate 6 runs off of 4 hits including a 3 run home run. Wesleyan started to pull away with the game claiming two additional solo home runs off of a total of four different Spartan Pitchers (Dawson, Nunn, St. Clair, and M. Nunn). The Spartans trailed 16-3 going into the bottom of the last inning but had one more spike of fight in them as they tacked on 3 more runs off of a two run home run by Dawson (second on the season) and a sacrifice fly by Matt Nunn deep to left for a final score of 16-6.
