"Spartiac Kids" Come From Six Down in Bottom of 7th to Shock NW Guilford 14-12! Jamie and Matt Nunn....Get er' Done!
Matt Nunn owes his big brother a big time thank you for helping him notch his second win of the year Monday night at Carl R.Sapp Field. Perhaps Jamie was mad NW Guilford smacked a two run HR off Matt in the top of the seventh to extend their lead to 12-6. So like a good big brother, Jamie got payback for his little brother, driving a walk-off dinger over the right field wall and onto the football stadium to give the Spartans a memorable come from behind win, 14-12. It was a fantastic team comeback after the Spartans could generate little offense to catch NW Guilford, except for a three run sixth inning highlighted by Bradley Morton's two run homer to center. The seventh inning was magical. Matt McConnell leads off and gets a free pass after getting hit by a pitch. Jon Gordon then lashes a sweeping triple to right field scoring Mc. Josh Parmasano and Patrick Ronan follow with singles and Morton walks to load the bases. Montana Dawson rips a long ball to deep left center that somehow, stays in the park and scores two more runs to make it 12-10. Cole Penn then doubles to right center driving in Morton and Dawson, tying it at 12 a piece. That's when the elder Nunn, an App St. signee, knew it was his turn. And turn he did, on a hanging curve that was out immediately! This was a solid come from behind victory for the team now being called the "Spartiac Kids". The Spartan's have an important conference game against Reagan Tuesday night. JV starts at 5pm with varsity following, both at beautiful Carl R. Sapp Field.
